God hates cheating in the marketplace.
He loves it when business is aboveboard.
Proverbs 11:1
We have a very active ministry to the homebound and ill-at-home members of our church. Every Sunday, both the 8:30 and the 11:00am services are recorded onto cd's. The finished product is then given to me, and I use our 7-copy cd reproducing machine to make copies to send out to an ever-growing list of parishioners. Last week, I asked the secretary to order us two more containers of cd's, as I had just put the last one out in the sound room. We made a list of quite a few items that we were getting low on, and she called in the order to a prominent office supply company.
The next day when the box arrived, I grabbed a pair of scissors and opened it. Imagine my surprise to find cd's all over the box, underneath the top layers of merchandise. The packing box did not have a single dent, wrinkle, or any other evidence of damage or mishandling. It looked as though an employee had pitched the stack of cd's into the box, splitting both the wrapping and the case. The cd's were all scruffed, again indicating that the stack had been opened prior to transit and the loose cd's damaged during the normal bumps of transportation. She called the company and told them the problem. They apologized profusely and said they would send a well-wrapped new package to us. When it arrived, the secretary opened it, only to find the exact same scenario. It was as though someone had used the cd's as a basketball pitched through a hoop. Again, not a single mark or indentation on the packing box.
When our office manager called the company this time, she suggested that perhaps they might want to check and see if the same individual packed both boxes. They assured her they would look into it, and sent out another cd stack that arrived without incident. I have no idea if the company followed through and checked out the packer, but if they did and it was the same person both times, someone had some explaining to do.
