Then God said, “Let there be light!”
And there was light.
God saw that the light was good.
Genesis 1:3-4a
One never realizes how much we depend on light until we don’t have any. The trapped miners in Chile went 69 days in the darkness of underground. I don’t know how they did it. I remember a news line about their situation “wearing them down.” No joke! I cannot imagine being stuck deep underground for a day or two, much less over two months.
Hurricane Irene roared through this area of Virginia a week ago, and left sheer devastation in her wake. Dominion Virginia Power reported 1.2 million homes without power at the end of Saturday’s monster storm. Today is eight days later, and many people in the greater Richmond area still do not have power – myself included. I am extremely thankful that power was restored to the church on Tuesday – giving me an outlet to charge my phone, write my blog, cook breakfast, and dry my hair!
I've felt like a pioneer in the evenings. The house gets pitch black by 8:45 pm, so I simply go to bed at 9:00pm. I blow out the candles, reassure the cats and hit the hay. Consequently, I wake up at 5:30am or so – refreshed and ready to tackle the day. I know that when the lights come back on, this sleeping habit will evaporate away – I work till 9:00pm at least a couple nights a week. But the change has been good, and an earlier regular bedtime is definitely in order.
When I logged on the power company website today, I discovered that my street is one of those they are scheduled to work on today. It would be wonderful if they actually got the power back on. At least the end is in sight – praise the Lord for His blessings!
Today’s Prayer Needs
Joel - for wisdom and responsibility at college.
Laci – that this time, her car is actually fixed properly
Keith – for the ability to lay down the mantle of his job
when it is time to relax and rest.
Everyone still struggling with the remnants of Irene
