For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given:
and the government shall be upon His shoulder,
and His name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counselor,
The Mighty God,
The Everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
At the TSO concert the other night, there was a darling young boy sitting with his mother three rows below me, directly on the side aisle that ran the length of the coliseum. He was quite striking because his blond hair was cut in a rather magnificent mohawk. The lad was clearly enthralled by the lasers, the fog, snow and stars, and especially the fire-snorting dragon.
Toward the end of the program, various members of the band came rollicking up the aisles while still playing their instruments. The bass player was headed toward us, running and dancing with gusto, when he caught sight of this little boy and stopped in his tracks. For a few precious seconds, he grinned at the child, spoke to him while ruffling his hair, then took off again – leaving behind a new fan with stars of wonder in his eyes.
Two thousand years ago, beneath a sky filled with flashing lights, shining angels, and glorious music, another precious Child lay sleeping in a straw-filled feeding trough, oblivious to the heavenly celebration that welcomed His arrival on earth. His destiny would take Him from the manger crib to a blood-stained cross, but in those quiet, star-filled moments, the world welcomed Emmanuel – God with us.
