I pray for good fortune in everything you do,
and for your good health—that your affairs prosper,
as well as your soul!
3rd John 2
I’m sure that we have all heard endless discussions on “needs” versus “wants.” During the Christmas vacation, I taped a sheet of paper on my pantry door in the kitchen, and wrote the heading TO BUY in bold relief. If I think of something that I would really like to have while I am traipsing through my everyday life, I write jot it down on the sheet. My current scribblings?
- A new slipcover for my very old sofa
- A replacement lamp for my bedroom
- Brick-colored paint to cover unexplained white patches around the foundation of my house (can now wait until spring)
- Comfortable Chair for the living room
- Fireplace implements
Although a case could be made for everything on this list, the only things listed that definitely fit the category of need are the fireplace implements. I am trying to partially heat my home with the wood stove insert in the living room, and I do not own any implements, causing me to use kitchen utensils for the job. Perhaps I should put up a very different list on my pantry door – A list of NEEDS for my life in 2012:
- Buy fireplace implements
- Take more time for relaxation
- Eat a reasonably nutritious diet (figure out how!!)
- Exercise every day – no excuses
- Stay in close contact with my girls
- Forgive others their peccadilloes
- Forgive myself for my idiosyncrasies
- To love, and love, and love, and LOVE
