Heroes of the Faith

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1

This Sunday, my children's choirs [Age 3-Grade 5] are presenting a musical entitled Heroes of the Faith.  The theme revolves around a group of children who are at a local museum for a field trip.  The last portion of their tour is a section dedicated to “Heroes of the Faith.”  Four statues are in the area they visit:

Moses – leader of God’s People
Deborah – prophetess and judge of Israel
Elijah – destroyer of idol worship
David – slayer of giants

Each of these Biblical figures was an important leader in the history of God’s people, relying on their faith to see them through the very difficult times they encountered.  God worked miraculously on their behalf as they accepted the challenge of guiding God’s people to walk faithfully before Him.

Music is a wonderful medium for imprinting in the minds of children the positive messages of faith and walking with God.  I can have no greater reward than to walk down the hall at the church, and hear a little voice singing:

I want to be a true hero, a champion of the faith.
I want to be a true hero, and serve God all of my days.
Help me, O Lord, to follow where you lead;
Help me, O Lord, to be what I can be.
I want to be a true hero, a champion of the faith.
I want to be a true hero, and serve God all of my days.
